Prof Dr Omar Elshaarawy, MB BCh, MSc, MD, PhD, FEBGH: Professor Elshaarawy is currently Associate Professor and Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. He has more than 80 publications including more than 40 in peer reviewed journals. Prof Elshaarawy has been elected as BSG Representative in United European Gastroenterology (UEG) board for 2023-2026 and Deputy Chair of BSG International Committee. He has been appointed as BSG International Secretary for the term 2025-2027. His leadership and communication skills have led to his recent election to the board of the British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL) as the Communications Officer. Professor Elshaarawy’s engagement with the academic community extends to his role as the Social Media Editor for the UEG Journal. He was selected as a member of the UEG Research Committee and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) social media committee. His academic journey in Hepatology and Gastroenterology has been marked by significant achievements, including obtaining MSc and MD degrees, followed by a distinguished PhD from Heidelberg University, Germany with honours
