Pediatric cardiac surgery

Lead Surgeon and Investigator Surgical and Critical Care Laboratory, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: I was a critical collaborator in an NIH funded laboratory investigating neuro- and cardio-protection in pediatric large animal models of cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and cardiac arrest. During almost seven years I led the Congenital Heart Disease Surgical Division at Floridablanca’s Heart Institute in Colombia. I managed each and every single stage for patients diagnosed with congenital heart conditions. My personal surgical activity approximated 250 pump cases per annum and encompasses the entire spectrum of congenital heart disorders: from the simplest to the most complex, including terminally ill patients from other institutions throughout Colombia and abroad. I took the neonatal surgery program to higher levels of complexity with pioneer neonatal procedures for the country.
